Hello Dear Moms!

I'm Marilyn Howshall. I’ve been ministering to families at meetings and conferences for more than 30 years, answering questions for moms in search of answers for their homeschooling and family relationships.

If you're thinking about homeschooling, or you've recently begun, we want to encourage you to develop vision and consider your goals concerning education so you can keep from going too far down an unproductive path that causes more difficulties for you and your children.

Your thoughts about leaving the school system may be a reaction to negative situations at school or traits you find developing in your children’s lives. Perhaps homeschooling is a new thought to you, and you haven't had the opportunity to fully examine the cause of the problems you are seeing.

In thinking about homeschooling, you might be falling into the trap of thinking you will need to do the same things at home that your children are doing in school. Your thoughts for how to homeschool (which are likely someone else’s plans for homeschooling) can often be wrought with haste, waste and panic regarding the academic aspect of your child’s education. This common pitfall will set you and your children up for burn out, boredom or failure. Consequently, this can easily result in increased tension at home.

The most common reasons parents decide to bring their children out of the system to homeschool have little or nothing to do with academics, yet the strongest effort moms usually make when beginning to homeschool is to bring school activity home and initiate a full-scale program of academics. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to address the problems you've been seeing with a full scale academic curriculum.

As a veteran homeschooler, I want to share some foundational principles to consider that you have likely never heard before. We want to encourage you and relieve some of your fears, and point you in a good direction for beginning your homeschool journey.

We hope you can come join us!
