Perhaps your time spent in quarantine recently brought you some new experiences with your family like I had when we first brought our children home to homeschool them way back in 1984. Aside from the education piece, which was big enough in itself, I was concerned about our family relational dynamic as well.

I had another concern that you may identify with. My husband and I were brand new Christians, and as new believers and followers of Jesus, we wanted our children to follow Him as well.

We’re all familiar with the traditional “believer’s training” model of bringing Christ to children—through typical Christian activities such as Church attendance, Sunday School, and Bible reading. Well, this model seemed to be failing me with our oldest child, and I continued to feel so ill-equipped.

I carried a nagging fear of the “what ifs”.

What if my children seemed to “receive Jesus” but then didn’t follow Him and make Him Lord of their lives?

What if I give my children all that the traditional model offered, but that it failed to reach their hearts toward true and lasting change?

Intuitively I knew my children would need a powerful encounter with God to impact them deeply enough toward yielding to the Lordship of Christ. They needed true heart work just as I was experiencing with God as a new believer.

How was I to make God “real” to my children so they could connect with Him daily, and desire to follow Jesus for life?

You may have had similar nagging concerns, and like me you know one thing—you love your children and you think God must have a way.

He does Dear Heart, He does have a way!

In my greatest season of need, My Heavenly Father drew me to Himself to be parented by Him. I received the parenting of a lifetime! And as God parented me, I learned to parent my children for Him —a parenting and discipling model that would imprint God’s commands on my children’s hearts and equip them for life.

He would use that season to draw my family into Kingdom Life, and help me to address all of my concerns. Eventually I reached out to help many other families with their parenting and educational challenges.
